Children's Rugs to Brighten Up Any Child's Room

Children's rugs not only great looking using a collection of colors to afford them greater vibrancy and fun, but they need to be durable and hard wearing too. Whether you're shopping for children's rugs to finish off the bedroom décor or a little something extra to put in the playroom or nursery you can find a massive selection that enable you to match any style room and in any color.

Print Styles

Animals, cars, flowers, and geometric shapes are just some of the designs that are incorporated into the design of children's rugs so whatever your son, daughter, or grandchild is into you can find the perfect rug design for them. As well as a selection of natural and neutral colors that will match the décor in any room you can also select more colorful and vibrant options. Oranges, reds, greens, and other bright colors look perfect when placed in a child's bedroom or playroom.

Designing A Child's Room

Designing a child's room can be great fun for parents too. There are virtually no limits to how colorful and creative you can get. While you may feel the need to exercise caution when designing your own room or one of the living areas in your home this isn't something you need worry about when designing for your children. In fact, the brighter and more fun looking the better in most cases.

Factors To Consider When Buying Children's Rugs

Of course, when it comes to designing bedrooms, playrooms, and nurseries for kids you should also consider factors like how hard wearing the rug is and how well it will protect your children. Kids love to jump around and an active child will naturally run, jump, leap, and crawl across the rug, Ensuring that it is made from high quality wool or other high quality materials not only ensures that it will stand the test of time and rigorous use; it also ensures that your son or daughter will be comfortable.

Protect Your Flooring As Well As Knees And Feet

Rugs can protect flooring while looking great too. A variety of shag lengths are available with the longer shags providing more than adequate protection for knees and feet as well as the flooring underneath. They can even damped some of the sound from above them making them an invaluable tool in the family home.

Getting The Right Size

Choosing which is the right size rug for your needs will depend largely on where it will place. If it is to take pride of place in a bedroom or other room dedicated solely to the kids then you can go virtually as big as you like. Alternatively, smaller rugs can be used as a great way to separate a play area from a dining room or other living room.

Children's Rugs

There are many different options available when it comes to picking children's rugs. You can pick virtually any color in the spectrum, you can choose from a number of different rug sizes and shag lengths and you can even opt to have shapes or objects on the rugs you choose.

My Urban Child has a massive selection of high quality, hard wearing, and beautiful looking children's rugs designed to suit your needs and those of your children.

Potty Training Boys Isn't As Scary As You Think

In some respects, it doesn't make too much of a difference whether you are in the process of potty training boys or girls. With that said, there are a few differences and there are some things that you can do to help make teaching your son to use the toilet a success.

Just like potty training a girl, your boy needs to be ready to begin the process. You need to be careful about pushing the process on him and starting too early. When he starts asking questions and showing an interest in the toilet, he is probably ready to begin. Seize the opportunity to start putting your potty training plan in place.

One of the key things that parents can do to help in toilet learning is to model potty behavior. Dads, here is where you need to step up to the plate. If the child is curious about how boys go potty, then allow him to observe when you go. Children want to emulate their parents and this kind of role modeling can go a long way towards helping them gain command of the potty. Explain everything that you do as you go along. As well, do this as often as possible. Consistency and routine is important in getting the concepts to stick and become habit.

Using training pants right away can be a big factor leading to potty training success. Training pants feel different than diapers and give them a sense right away of being a big boy. The other advantage to using training pants is that if they have an accident in them, they are a lot less comfortable than they would be wearing a diaper. For many boys, this is enough incentive to help them minimize the amount of accidents they have.

There is a great opportunity when toilet training boys to have a little fun. Throwing a couple of Cheerios into the bowl before they pee helps turn potty time into a bit of fun time. Giggles are guaranteed as they have a little target practice while going pee. Keep a small bag of Cheerios in the bathroom and keep them handy, since sometimes there is not always a lot of time to pre-plan the potty events for the little guy. Also, considering having them color flushable targets to keep near the toilet. Active involvement in the toilet teaching process helps to keep the child motivated and allows them to buy in to the process.

Teaching boys to use the toilet requires just as much patience as it does to potty train girls. There are going to be times that your patience is tested, but it's important to remain calm. You and your boy will get through the little accidents. They are not a big deal. Keep things in perspective and you and your boy will learn to use the toilet.

Gifts For Girls of All Ages

Girls are easy to buy for. Girls of all ages from age 2 up to age 18 love bath products. Bubbles and lotions, and bath sponges, you name it. Girls also like nail polish at any age, even if it is for play at a young age, the same goes for makeup.

Girls love purses and stuffed animals. Anything girly most girls like, unless of course you have a tom boy, then you might want to look at baseball gloves and ball bats. Most girls love earrings and other jewelry. Definitely buy age appropriate types, as you would not want a 4 year old wearing a gold necklace.

Clothes are liked by older girls, starting at age about 12 or so. Tweens can be difficult to buy for because this is a time of major changes in their lives. Keep an eye on their interests. If they have favorite sports teams, a jacket with the team logo might go over well.

Games are very popular for ages 6 and up to about age 12. It can be board games or other types of games. Of course just like the boys, girls like to play some video games. Girls like creative things, and there are many crafty and creative kits that girls will like to make scrapbooks, jewelry, and other crafts with.

As the girls get older, they want the nice shoes, clothes, and jewelry. Watches are a safe bet. Jewelry boxes are also popular. Girls love dolls from a young age, and older girls might have a doll collection with a favorite type of doll or doll maker.

Little girls ages 3-8 like to play dress-up and there are many kits available made just for this type of play, with princess costumes and high heel shoes, and hats. This keeps them out of mommy's clothes and jewelry. Hair accessories are popular with most girls.

Anything that is new for that year such as right now it is the FurReal pets that act like real pets and respond to voice commands. Girls of all ages like these types of things, they are a novelty and fun to play with. Electronic toys and items are usually popular such as I-Pods, digital cameras, and computers. Again think age appropriate.

Older girls like tanning beds, spa treatments, and gift cards to go shopping. Yes they are more spoiled than they used to be. They have been taught to start taking care of their selves at an early age, so skin and hair products are also popular with girls ages 14 and up.

Find an interest such as reading, and buy a book from their favorite author. Learning toys are popular also, because I makes learning fun especially for the ones ages 13 and below. Diaries and journals are popular with ages 11 and up.

There are a wide range of choices that you can find to buy for any girl. If there is something that they collect, add to the collection. You are on your way to making some girl happy.

Wanted' Chapter 2

Thanks for the 8+ comments, it's more than I asked for! I'm really pumped up about all the great feedback! Thanksss (: ------------------------------------------------------ Her mind replayed the scenes in her head; fast-forwarding all the gruesome images that still clinged to her. How had she let this slip? Sudden realization swept over her; Demi. Demi had been with her. Demi knew. Demi was a part of it. Only why would Demi try to bust her, for something she was equally responsible for? Her lower lip jutted out in frustration as she bent down, retrieving her phone. 9.48 PM. It wasn't late, she could surely have a chance to interrogate Demi herself. She quickly grabbed her raincoat, and stormed out of her bedroom. The night has hazy from the storm earlier on. Demi lived only a block away from her. She didn't even have to look up to know where she was going; the route was programed into her from years of knowledge. She had been best friends with Demi since they were only in diapers. She knitted her brows furiously as she stomped up onto her porch. Just as she was about to knock, a slight rustling interupted her. She froze, as her eyes quickly searched her surroundings. No one was there. Stop over-reacting, she told herself. This was surely just some sick joke. Some lame-ass loner with nothing to do, just fooling around. Once her heart continued it's regular beat she proceded to knock on her door. Demi opened the door, her hair in a messy bun, wearing sweats and an ...

Go Green in Costumes - Earth Day 2010 Awareness

Earth Day is celebrating 40 years of worldwide awareness for year 2010. Myself and everyone at Totally Costumes (www.totallycostumes.com) is excited for the opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future. While I think it would be entertaining to overload you with figures and facts that will try to bribe you into recycling with the idea that our world might come to an end, I decided it would be MUCH more fun to create a video full of music, earth day themed costumes and recycling fun facts. I am optimistic that our Earth Day costume video will bring awareness to the future of our planet. I know I will work on "going green" in my day to day activities in hopes to help becoming apart of preserving our generation's future. Of course, who says wearing costumes, green costume accessories and publicly walking down the street to shooting sites isn't just as much fun! I highly encourage all of you to get some green costume accessories for APRIL 22ND, 2010 and bring Earth Day awareness to your town or neighborhood. I know I had plenty of looks and smiles as I walked from site to site waving to those that went past. 5 Easy Ways to Help Our Planet 1. Bring awareness by wearing green accessories or earth day costumes in your town and display signs with recycling fun facts. 2. Recycle in your own home by placing a 2nd bin for recyclable materials such as aluminum cans, plastic bags, milk cartons and plastic / glass bottles. Use a reusable water ...

Parenting Tips For Potty Training

Potty training can be a difficult experience for both parent and child. When done correctly, it can be a moment in time that is looked at as a blessing. The child feels like a 'big kid', the parent gets out of buying diapers! But, when rushed, it can be a disaster.

Therefore, before even considering the process, ask yourself these questions:

1. Is this a relatively stress-free time in the family?

Look carefully at your current family situation. Is there extra time? Are activities at the lowest possible point in time? No major changes coming soon? Job stress low? It is important to have the time and patience to successfully get through potty training with a smile on your face. So, if you have big projects at work or the distant relative is coming to stay with you for awhile, now may not be the greatest of times to get started. However, if everything is running smoothly, it may be the perfect time to begin.

2. Is your child ready?

It use to be that a child was pushed to be potty trained at the age of one. Those days are long gone, thank goodness. By nature, a child starts to become interested around the age of two. However, each child is different and the final decision as to when to try and use the potty is strictly between the parent and child.
When a child is ready, they will start to show signs.

Signs of readiness:

· Child wanting to wear 'big kid' underwear

· Keeping their diaper dry for 2 hours

· Having predictable bowel movements

· Telling you when they have to go

· Uncomfortable wearing diapers

· Able to pull their own pants up and down

If they show the above signs, it might just be time to give it a shot.

Ready?

· Take your child to the store and let them pick out their own potty chair.

· Encourage them to decorate it with stickers and drawings to make it feel more like their own.

· Start by just letting them sit on it whenever they want, for whatever reason. They may want to read a book while sitting on their potty; they may also want to use the potty with their diaper on. Just sitting on it will help them be more comfortable.

· Make "potty time" a routine. Set specific times your child sits on the potty for a few minutes, whether or not they actually use it doesn't matter.

· At other then the designated times, if they show signs of need, rush them to the potty chair and reward them if they successfully used the chair.

· Try NOT to get mad when they have an accident. This process takes time and practice and the children should be rewarded for successes. Not punished for failures.

· When your child does a "poo-poo" in their diapers, help them take it to the potty chair. That will quietly tell them where the "poo-poo" goes.

After several weeks of success, it may be time to ditch the diapers. Make this a big event. Let the child throw them away and let them know they are now a "big" boy or girl. This is a moment to be celebrated and remember. Maybe bake a cake and take pictures.

If your child is still in need of night time cover, buy special pull-ups or night time trainers. They look and feel more like underwear and your child will not feel like they failed at night due to accidents. Don't even call them diapers. They are simply "Night Trainers." It is perfectly normal for the nights to take a little longer for the child to gain control over.

This can be a long and difficult process, but it is a huge part of growing up. Some children take longer than others. Try not to worry and do not to let anyone comment on the length of training. Keep in mind that this is equally as stressful for your child as it is for you.

Children grow up so fast and unless unusual circumstances exist, there are no children walking down the aisle to graduate high school wearing diapers! So, relax! All things will come in time, including potty training.

Pet Monkey clay childhood and harness-vest combo. Cotton Top Tamarin Primate

Pet Monkey diapering MUST start at a matter of weeks of age. Wait until they are a few months old and good luck! Sure, your monkey is going to complain about it, maybe even scream to see if that will work in to it's advantage, but you must not give in! If you give in, your monkey will remember and work YOU every time. YOU must stay the alpha. What's my secret? I have their favorite blankey (or a piece of it if it's starting to fall apart) near, and I offer a tiny piece of an ultra-favorite treat --- Gerber Graduates Fruit Juice Treats, and talk calmly to them, tell them how good they are being (even if they are being a little naughty). Praise and a calm voice will get you, the owner, one heck of a lot farther than a stressed voice spewing words of how naughty the monkey is being. Now, this video, is about cloth diapers. I have tried every, or at least near every, cloth diaper available on the internet and have come to the conclusion they are gravely flawed in their design. Not only does the urine soak through the diaper quickly, but the leg opening design is erroneous for free movement of long-jumping highly active small monkeys like my Tamarins, especially the infant Tamarins (and Marmosets). This leg opening flaw causes not only the primate discomfort but the owner too when trying to accommodate their beloved pet in the best possible, least stressful, manner. Hence, many new monkey owners put off diapering until the monkey is a couple of months old, and then.... well ...

Potty Traning 101

An important milestone in your child's development is potty training, also referred to as toilet training. It is a time when your little baby becomes a big girl or big boy, and they are one step further in their independence. If you are prepared and research tips, facts, and methods on potty training the experience can be less daunting and stressful for you and your child. You should have all your supplies before you start in on the process and teaching, and encourage your child to shop with your for the supplies you need. Here are some potty training tips and list of supplies that you will find helpful as you begin your journey towards potty training.

Although most parents don't want to spoil their children too much, candy and rewards during the process is very necessary. Also, don't feel too guilty when you bribe your child with new toys or candy when they use their potty chairs or toilets. Going to the bathroom is a good thing, but you should also teach your child that they won't get a special treat every time they use the adult bathroom. Candy and toy rewards should be small, and for example you can give one piece of small candy not an entire bag. Giving small rewards and keeping an encouraging attitude will make your child want to be potty trained and they will feel good about themselves too.

Being prepared is the most important tip. You should prepare for the worst and expect the best during potty training. There are going to be accidents because that is an inevitable part of this process. Things you will include diapers, pull up diapers, diaper ointment, underwear, and some type of children's potty training seat or toilet. You can buy potty chairs or attachments that go on top of your toilet. Some parents like to use a potty chair and then focus potty training using the regular toilet.

You shouldn't throw out any diapers that you have because you may need to put diapers on your child at night. You should focus on teaching your child the feeling they have when they need to go to the bathroom during the day. A lot of kids are heavy sleepers, so you will still need them to wear diapers at night during the first part of the process. Your child can still get diaper rashes from wearing them at night, so you will still need to use diaper ointment so that rash doesn't get out of control. You should use pull up diapers or underwear during the day.

As a parent, you will need to practice patience with your child. Potty training can take a lot of time because it is so new for a child. They have to learn where to go the bathroom, how to undress themselves, how to tell their parents when they need to go, and how to control the muscles that control when they go to the bathroom. You will have to teach them how to feel when they need to go and to hold it in until they are properly situated on their potty chair or toilet. There will be accidents and clean ups on a daily basis. Remember to be patient with your child and not to scold them for having an accident. Keep the tone and mood positive and encourage your child often.
