The Basics of Cloth Diapers - 3 Big Advantages of Using Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers are making a huge comeback. Why would parents use a cloth diaper instead of the more convenient disposable diaper? Below are the 3 big advantages of using cloth diapers.

1.  Helps the Environment

Parents are more conscious of the impact they have on their environment now more than ever before. It is estimated that one child will go through 5,000 diapers changes during their diaper wearing years. These can last up to 500 years in the landfills. And according to the Environment al Protection Agency diapers made up 3.2 million tons of waste in the landfills in 1998; which is the last year they collected the data. So using cloth diapers definitely helps the environment!

2.  Cost

You can save up to $1,500 or more by switching from disposable to cloth. Who doesn't like to save money? There is more of an upfront cost for cloth diapers on your first child. This cost is determined by the type of cloth diaper that you are going to use. But spending the money upfront saves tons later. You will save even more if do the laundry yourself.

3.  Potty Train Earlier

A disposable diaper hides the wetness your child feels, but cloth diapers do not. Your child gets to know the feeling of when she goes potty at an earlier age; therefore making it possible to start potty training them younger.

If you think these are not good enough reasons to switch from disposable to cloth there are methods that make the process a little easier. You can buy either a toilet sprayer for the soiled diapers or you can purchase biodegradable disposable cloth diaper liners. Some of these liners will even allow you to use them more than once.  How great is that!
